Unicorn Baby | Firefighter Newborn Photoshoot

In newborn photography, the term “unicorn baby” is a nickname photographers sometimes use to describe a baby who is exceptionally easy to work with.

A “unicorn baby” typically:

Sleeps soundly and deeply through most of the session
Easily transitions between poses without fussing
Rarely cries or startles
Is naturally curled up and flexible, making posing smooth
Might even give a few sweet smiles or expressions on cue

The idea is that, just like a unicorn, this kind of baby feels magical and rare—since most newborns will have at least a few fussy or alert moments during a session (which is completely normal).

This beautiful little one was an absolute DREAM for her mini newborn photoshoot. I also loved including a very personal touch—her daddy’s firefighter helmet. We complemented the firefighter photos with some traditional newborn portraits as well to highlight her natural beauty.

These early days are fleeting, and incorporating such a meaningful family detail made this session even more memorable. One day, I hope this little girl will look back at her newborn photos and see not only how tiny she once was but also how loved she has always been.

Every newborn & family photoshoot is special, but this one was extra special. My son’s high school (now college) sweetheart sent her sister’s family my way to capture their new baby boy’s photos a couple years ago, and now they’ve welcomed a new baby girl! She is absolutely adorable, and a perfect addition to their beautiful family.

I just about fell over when I saw this little beauty’s gorgeous red hair—truly a showstopper from the very first moment! She was a dream to photograph and absolutely beautiful. It’s sessions like hers that remind me why I love capturing newborn photos so much—each little one is completely unique!

Welcome to the world, baby girl! She’s already a couple months old as I’m finally getting around to highlighting her session, but here we go! This sweet little girl’s newborn photoshoot was nothing short of dreamy. She gave me such a good mix of sleepy shots, awake portraits, and sweet little smiles. Newborn sessions are some of my favorites! It’s always such an honor to help families preserve these first fleeting days, when everything is brand new. I had a blast meeting this cute family and their two little girls. I have no doubt they’ll be besties for life!

Firefighter Newborn Photos

There’s something so special about meeting families who have just welcomed a new little one. This post is long overdue, but worth the wait. This little guy’s dad is a firefighter, so I got to incorporate his gear into the session. To add icing on the cake, I also got to capture the sweetest sibling photos. If big sister looks familiar, it’s because I got to capture her 1st birthday photos a couple years ago. She was so cooperative which isn’t usually the case with toddlers! To further the deja vu, I’ve also been so lucky to photograph his cousins’ newborn photos (their daddy is also a firefighter).

Clients can select from three newborn session options tailored to accommodate various preferences, and ensure that every family can find the perfect fit for their newborn photography needs:

Full Newborn Session: This comprehensive session takes place in my home studio in Menifee and lasts about 2-3 hours. It offers multiple setups and poses, personalized to your preferences, including colors and props. Family, parent, and sibling photos can be included for no extra cost.
Mini Newborn Session: A short and sweet session lasting up to 1 hour, focusing solely on the baby. This option is perfect for those who want quick yet beautiful photos of their newborn.
Lifestyle Newborn Session: This session lasts up to 1 hour and takes place in the comfort of your own home, any time within the first 8 weeks of your baby’s life (between 2 days to 2 weeks old is ideal). It is a beautiful way to document those precious bonding moments with your new family member. Parents, siblings and pets are welcome and encouraged to join in the photos!
