Kennedy’s 1st birthday cake smash

Kennedy’s 1st birthday cake smash was full of her gorgeous smiles and beautiful brown eyes! She was so happy and joyful through every moment, even with a bit of a mishap with the cake at the end. Her personality is every bit as beautiful as she is, and I loved meeting her and her parents.

1st Birthday Cake Smash Photography

Cake smash photography is such a special way to celebrate a baby’s first birthday! A lot of families love to display these photos at their baby’s first birthday party, or simply as a way to commemorate this precious milestone.

A typical cake smash photo session consists of:

Pre-cake portraits: I love to capture baby’s portraits and personality and do a few different setups before bringing out the cake!
Cake smash: The main event where the baby gets to dig in to the cake. Some babies absolutely love it while others are more timid, but that’s the beauty of every session…getting to see baby’s personality and curiosity shine through!
Clean-up: This can include some cute photos with baby playing in a little tub — babies usually love this part the most!

When planning a cake smash session, consider the following tips:

Choose a theme or color scheme that complements your baby’s personality or birthday party decor.
I recommend light or white cakes with whipped cream frosting or “naked” frosting. Buttercream tends to be a bit sticky and difficult for babies to swallow.
Be prepared for a mess — frosting tends to get everywhere! Bring extra clothes for both the baby and yourself.

I have a variety of outfits, headbands, banners, cake stands, cake toppers, and balloons. Clients are always welcome to bring anything to make their session unique. Personally, I prefer to keep things simple to truly focus on the baby, but I’m always happy to discuss client’s wishes for their baby’s first birthday photos! Riley’s 1st birthday cake smash photos couldn’t have been more fun — she is such an absolutely beautiful baby! She has the BEST hair ever… oh my goodness I LOVE her curls!! She is so photogenic and expressive, and just as cute as it gets.

After moving from Southern Utah to California two years ago, I had to start from scratch with new clients. I absolutely love returning clients and I was over the moon when Riley’s momma reached out for another photoshoot!

Dayven’s Lion Wild One Cake Smash was a hit! Cutie Dayven, his parents and big brother drove to my home studio in Menifee from the Anaheim area for his first birthday cake smash photoshoot. Because he’s a Leo, he had a Wild One lion theme for his session. He was a bit scared of my studio light, and wanted to snuggle his momma a bit, but it all worked out in the end. Tangled 1st Birthday | Lake Elsinore Cake Smash Photographer

I had so much fun setting up for little beauty Camila’s 1st birthday cake smash session! Her upcoming birthday party will be a Tangled theme, so I wanted to incorporate some beautiful gold and lavender colors by making a balloon garland. Her momma wanted some family and parent shots, so we started off with some family photos, then got some sweet shots of little Camila showing off her pretty dress. She wasn’t very sure about her cake or the strange lady pointing a camera at her 🙂 but I hope she will have a blast celebrating her big day next week! I love personalizing each baby’s session according to their own personality and whatever parents would like to highlight their little one. First birthday sessions can include a cake (also known as a smash cake session or cake smash session) plus baby bath shots at the end (I have a few baby-sized tubs that are absolutely adorable), making these sweet sessions extra fun!

She was such an adorably tiny newborn, it was so fun to see how much she has grown. She was so funny about her cake and much more interested in trying to eat the flowers!
